EE Reflection

The name of this course is “Individual & Society,” which I’m starting to understand due to the essays and readings we’re doing. This course teaches English while also reflecting on one’s social experiences. Because of the course’s name and the essays we write, I find myself analyzing the movies I watch. For example, two days ago, I was watching a movie and I analyzed the character’s personality through a Freudian lens. When I notice something linked to Freudian concepts throughout the day, they also come to mind. Since I applied previous feedback from my professor and classmates while writing this exploratory essay, I was able to improve my writing skills. This demonstrates the value of peer review because it allows me to consistently improve. To begin with, I finished my essay way earlier than the deadline, which is great. This is because I had difficulty analyzing the quotes I used, thus I had more time to revise my essay. I also had time to visit the Writing Center for further assistance, which was quite beneficial. Second, being aware of my rhetorical situations helped me in my writing. Knowing who I was writing for, people who had never read the story before, encouraged me to write more concisely so that the readers could understand. However, If the audience were my professors or classmates, then I wouldn’t be as explicit because they are familiar with the story. Writing about repressed thoughts is significant, in my opinion. This is because it informs people that repressing their feelings isn’t a realistic option. It’s not a realistic option because, as I demonstrated in my essay, the doctor’s repressed ideas are shown in his dream, so there is no way to escape them.
